which would have allowed it down into the valley where Chicken is, the wind changed and blew it back on itself, and this was the beginning of the end of the fire.

Though many of us were threatened with the fire, some had to run for their lives and lost their property. Our sympathy goes out to them.

We did not make it back to Alaska for the summer of 2000. The only consolation is that the previous year's flooding was entirely overshadowed this year, by flooding, no one had ever seen before. In some instances, I was told the entire season consisted of only two or three weeks of dredging time.
Hopefully, there was a silver (or gold) lining in those clouds. The major flooding may have resorted and stratified the material, creating some good spots, or even opened up some spots not available before.
